Each fret on the guitar is a half-step. So, if we have a starting point (which we do) it is easy to find out what the notes are. The starting point will be the open string. 1st string is the thinnest and the 6th string is the thickest.

Every time you move up (to the right) the frets, the pitch is getting higher. Also, when you move down (to the left) the frets, the pitch is getting low.
Here are the notes from open string to 12th fret. From the open string to the 12th fret note, it is the same note but a higher(lower) pitch. This is called an “octave”. So, beyond the 12th fret it is the same notes so it is easy to remember.
